There was early interest in "Hamnet" from the LAMB community when the schedule first went out, but two guests had to drop out of the show a day before recording and an SOS went out for replacements. Fortunately the call was answered and Rachel Wagner of "Rachel's Reviews" came in and did the work of two to make the show more complete. Of course returning LAMB Latoya Austin from "Frangalis27Tales", was just as invested in talking about this highly praised fictionalization of the circumstances in Shakespeare's life which led to the greatest play in history. There are a few rabbit holes that we go down as we talk about the film, but rest assured, the amazing Jessie Buckley comes in for a deserved amount of praise for her starring turn as the Bard's largely unknown spouse. If you are up for a thoughtful discussion of Shakespeare, history, and movie production, you will want to listen or watch this episode.

As always, the October MOTM is horror themed, but for a time, the horror was our communities indecision. Twice films tied for the selection, executive action resolved the dilemma and "Re-Animator" from 1985 is our film this week. A horror film filled with gore and comedy seems like a perfect choice, but a couple of the guests were less than enthusiastic, and it may surprise you as to who. If your favorite band of the 1980s is Talking Heads, you are going to love this movie. It may be classified as a zombie film, but it is closer to the mad scientist trope of horror, in spite of the large number of living dead. Bruce Abbot, Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton star in the film, but David Gale may be the antenna topper that makes it memorable.

We have your comic book movie fix this week with an episode featuring the Man of Steel, and we don't mean Henry Cavill. Writer/Director James Gunn has been given the keys to the DCEU kingdom and he tales his first film out for a test drive. Will there be buyers remorse from the studio, backlash from comic book purists, box off in overseas territories? It is hard to say at this point, but what we can say is what four LAMBs thought of the film. Jeanette Ward, James Wilson and Todd Liebenow have all applied to join the Justice Gang, and this will count as their admission essay. We don't get an origin story again, but as everone on the show agrees, we get a lot of movie.

Who doesn't like dinosaurs chasing and killing people on screen? This week we have four guests who are all for such antics. Jeanette Ward has a soft spot for dinosaurs and is happy to see giant reptile necking depicted on screen. Nicole Ayers has some thoughts on the third act, that amplify the thoughts of everyone on the show. Oh, yeah. Oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's running and screaming.

50 years ago this month, "Jaws" was unleashed on the world and the film industry has never been the same. It can also be said that film fans have never been the same either and this week on the LAMBcast, we discover why. We had ten LAMBs who were scheduled at one point, and we lost one along the way, probably because he was playing with Pipit. There were several prompts that the guests responded to or used to transition to a variety of adjacent subjects; cars, Fathom Events, British Tax Policies etc. If the show sometimes sounds like an extended promo for the "Deep Blue Sea Podcast" there is a reason for that as well. Aaron Neuwirth is back on the show, insisting on calling things horror films, Nicole Ayers both loves and hates Mayor Vaughn. Howard Casner declares he might have seen the film three or four times (and gets ribbed by the host and others for such extravagance). Dave Anderson has Jaws stories about his childhood and the childhood of his kids. Jay Cluitt does some cross promotion and disappoints everyone by having most recently watched the film on his phone. Finally, Amanda Kirkham gets pulled into the ocean to talk about the film that has been her favorite since she was four years old.

A thirteen year old film, that has been derisively described as poverty porn, is our chosen film this month. Featuring an excellent supporting performance from Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson and a cameo role by Anthony Mackie, "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete is actually carried on the shoulders of two young actors who are on screen for nearly every scene in the story. Nicole Ayers of the "Mad Lab Post" championed the film and hosted the show. We lost one of our regular guests to illness but a super hero appeared at the last minute to join us and Howard Casner of "Pop Art" adds his insight to the discussion.

"Yeah", "That was awesome". Jeanette Ward, tries to keep us all from sinking into repeating all the jokes from the film, and she succeeds in getting us to dig a little bit for some overlooked gems. You may not understand the movie better from listening to the show, but you will want to watch it again because Matt Simpson, James Wilson and Bubbawheat are enthusiastic about so much of the movie. "Kind Hearts and Coronets" is a dark comedy of manners that was release in the U.S. in 1950. Famous for Alec Guinness playing eight parts, it is a showcase for character actor Dennis Price as the star. Three of the guests this week were old hands at this serial killer comedy, David Brook, James Wilson and Howard Casner had all been slain by this before. Only Matthew Simpson joined Richard as fresh victims of this drool Ealing product that is considered one of the greatest British films of all time. Set your headphones on stun because spoilers start flying immediately.

OK, we did not get to this on opening weekend, but there seems to be enough interest to sustain the theatrical run for a couple of weeks. 'For The Rest Of Your Lives, There Will Be Before You Listen And There Will Be After. Lambs, Verbally Acknowledge Please.' Heretic is the A24 Psychological Horror film starring Hugh Grant, cast against type as an intellectually curious potential convert to the Mormon faith. We have two sisters and two elders joining the show this week in the spirit of the Later Day Saints which comes in for examination.
Lisa Leaheey loves her horror movies, will she love this one? Nicole Ayers is not a horror fan, will she choose door number 2? James Wilson is also not a horror fan, but he may be susceptible to Mr. Reed's lecture. Howard Casner is a skeptic of everything, and we will find out if he is too jaded to enjoy the film. We do a little criticism of casting against type in other films and suggest some non-traditional casting of our own. So as Monty Hall might ask, which door do you choose?

It's spooky season on the Lambcast, Halloween is coming and horror films are everywhere. We got a request a few weeks ago for a show that focuses on earlier horror films so it seemed like the right time for another draft episode. This week we have some incredibly strange creatures who stopped living and became mixed up movie bloggers. There are a few reasons that we limited the entries to this time period. First, that was the suggestion from a listener that prompted the episode to begin with. A second reason is that I am looking for films that don’t always get covered during the season. Let's try to broaden our tastes. Another reason is that 1973 marked a transition in horror films with “The Exorcist” breaking out of the horror ghetto and becoming a mainstream success. And finally, this limitation means that I don’t have to engage one more time in an argument over whether or not “Jaws” is a Horror film. Aaron Neuwirth, Howard Casner, David Brook, Dave Anderson, and Todd Liebenow enjoy a "spirited" competition over their favorite older horror movies. Frankly, it is horrifying when the film you want is chosen right before your turn, listen to Howard scream repeatedly if you want proof.

The October MOTM is a horror film, in recognition of Halloween and this year we have a truly frightening film, but still with a lot of humor. It comes from director Sam Rami, so that mixture will be no surprise to the deadites out there, but this film does not feature Bruce Campbell. Instead, we get Alison Lohman, being physically and mentally abused as a curse threatens to take her to hell via a violent lamia. Matthew Simpson of the Awesome Friday Podcast was the movie's champion, and he takes over the hosting duties. Damien Riley of "But I Digress" spends a lot of time admiring Miss Lohman in the film, and we talk about out favorite horror film directors as well. Plenty of spoilers, but with a film titled "Drag Me to Hell" you have a pretty good idea of what is coming.

The "senior" staff at the Lambcast check out the new entry in the Mad Max Cycle (Motorcycle that is) of films. It takes two actresses to replace Charlize Theron, so the movie has some pretty distinct sections. We talk structure, action sequences and story and we get side tracked a couple of times on tech issues, but it's all very educational. After a tight vote the rebooted "Planet of the Apes" Franchise was chosen for the April MOTM. Charlton Heston will not be making an appearance, at least not as a featured player in today's podcast. Roddy McDowell will not be trying on a leisure suit or leading a revolution of house pets in any of the films we talk about today. The star of these movies is clearly Andy Serkis, who plays the ape Caesar, in a motion capture performance in all three films: Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War for the Planet of the Apes. Matthew Simpson of the Awesome Friday Podcast is the host, he is joined by Nicole Ayers and Sean Homrig (for most of the show) as well as Richard. Get ready to go Ape for these movies.

Drive-In fare, Spaghetti Westerns, and French films fill the episode. So maybe "The Graduate" didn't make anyone's list, there are still a couple you will recognize, and a bunch you will now want to see. Surprisingly, Richard gets some films on the list even with being absent.

The Legacy Cast shows up in a variety of spots to check all the boxes, and having insured a PG-13 rating, we get a Supernatural Adventure film, which may be straying a bit from the roots of the franchise. Does it work, should you spend your money to see it, will you laugh? You will just have to listen to Matt Hudson, Lisa Leaheey and Todd Liebenow to find out.

"The Neon Demon" is a 2016 film from "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn. It may be a cautionary tale about the fashion industry, it may be a horror film, or it may simply be repulsive. Matthew Simpson, James Wilson and The Vern have very different views of the film. Whether or not you want to hang a single frame from the film on your wall as art, will depend first on whether you can stomach some of the ideas and scenes in the movie. Beauty isn't everything. It's the only thing. Are you high?

The opinions on this film were not uniform but there was a great deal of admiration, and for one of our Lambs it was a first time watch. We also spent some time looking at the best and worst performances of these two stars, and our conclusion is that the movies were almost always the thing that was bad, rather than their performances. For a third week in a row we feature a horror film on the Lambcast, a result of October being Halloween Season. Of course if there is a season for Halloween, there is a movie to go with it. Director David Gordon Green wraps up his trilogy reboot, reimagining, sequel, recalibration, whatever you want to call it, and the Lambcast chooses to roast the films like Michael Myers in Halloween 2018.

All three films come in for some criticism, and it looks like it is going to be a race to the bottom with "Halloween Kills" and "Halloween Ends" neck and neck on the road to oblivion. The Lambs this week were not shy about their distain for the choices made in these last two movies. Come and listen and decide for yourself. Has "Halloween" really ended?

This is the sixth Decade Lookback Episode we have done, and let's just say it, 1973 cleans every other years clock so far. There is such a plethora of great films that "The Sting", "American Graffiti" , ""Save the Tiger", "Scarecrow", "Serpico", "The Last Detail" did not make the top five list of anybody on the show. It is such a great diverse year, that there was only one "Pineapple Kiosk" in the twenty five films that were discussed. And with Howard Casner and David Brook on the show, we got more non English language films than you can shake a stick at. It may take years for us to find as many films for a single show that people were passionate about. Dave Anderson and Todd Liebenow tried to keep Richard honest, but let's just say enthusiasm was everywhere. You should come and get some rubbed off on you.

Tony Coogan hosts the MOTM discussion with the film he championed this month, from Studio Ghibli, "Princess Mononoke". The August films are International in flavor and since at least one person on the show was from a different continent, so was the show. There is talk about the marketing of the film, the cultural barriers that may have limited it's success in the States, and of course, the animation work, which in many moments is awe inspiring. It also turns out this is not exactly a kids film, what with all the decapitations and ex-prostitutes in the story, you may want to preview it before you set your children in front of the screen.

What would be more appropriate than the most popular film, directed by someone many consider to be the most important woman director in film history Agnès Varda? "Cléo from 5 to 7" was ranked as the second best female directed film of all time behind only "The Piano" from Jane Campion. The Lambs have a thoughtful, detailed conversation on a film without much plot but which does have a lot to say. You don't have to put on your snob thinking cap just because the movie is in French, we sure didn't, but you will get a chance to think about a lot of things when you listen to us and you watch this movie.

Two Hours and Twenty Minutes is probably easier to do than the nearly twelve hours it would take to watch all the films, but after listening to the show you will probably want to do just that.

Francis Ford Coppola had a good year in 1974. He was nominated for Five Academy Awards that year, and he won three but none of them were for the film he has always said was his favorite of his movies, heck it wasn't even his favorite of that year, and those awards came for Godfather Part II. Video Comfort Movies could be as varied as any menu in the world. Movie fans find comfort in the strangest things. Some people want to curl up with Freddy Kruger or Jason Voorhees and get cozy. Others want to watch their favorite James Bond film for the 114th time. Many will head to the far East to pig out on Samurai or Kung Fu films, others revert to the past and swim in nostalgia for the Golden Age of Hollywood. I suppose it also depends on what you are trying to escape by seeking out Comfort Food. Did you just have a long day and need to relax? Are you upset at something and you need a cathartic release of energy? Maybe your brain is taxed and you want the most mindless thing you can come up with without thinking too hard.

We're taking inspiration from ourselves, namely how we split up the Harry Potter franchise last year, and chopping up the James Bond movies into six chunks, which we'll hit at a leisurely pace over the next year. We're kicking things off with, somewhat predictably, the first four films: Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball. Jay and Richard were joined by Will, James and Amanda to discuss the heroes, the villains, the kills, the exotic creatures and the rampant sexism peppered throughout the films.

LAMBCAST #400 THE 400TH SHOW SPECTACULAR

So apparently the LAMB celebrated it's 10th birthday a few weeks ago (October 31st to be exact) but what with all the hubbub around other areas of life it somehow got forgotten. Worry not dear flock, for though it was not technically intended for that celebration we have decided to mark the occasion with what is easily the most ambitious, and ultimately most time-consuming to edit Lambcast show in the history of the LAMB, it's our 400th Show Spectacular!

We couldn't decide on just one topic for this show, so we opted to commemorate the occasion by discussing pretty much everything in our worlds of film. So this show isn't just a Movie of the Month, it's not simply a Draft, it's not limited to just being a game of Lambpardy, no it's everything, all packed into one show. And because it's the 400th episode, each segment is tackled for exactly 400 seconds, or 6 minutes 40 seconds. If you think that doesn't sound like enough time to talk about a movie, well after recording the show I'm more than inclined to agree. We were joined by a cornucopia of Lambcast regulars - and a few unfamiliar voices too - all of whose credits can be found down the bottom. For now though, clear your schedule, you've got some listening to do.
