This flick made a gazillion dollars in its opening weekend and is on track to probably become the number one box office hit of the year - do I really need to introduce it much? You've seen it already, and if you haven't yet, there's a good chance you won't until it hits video.

But what you haven't seen or heard is Jay from Life vs. Film (fresh with a new, streamlined URL!) hosting his first podcast. Having become a regular fixture on the show over the last few months, it was time to try the reins in the hosting chair. How did he do?!? (Spoiler: he did great.) Also on hand was Lindsay, Bubbawheat, and Dylan.

Also on tap:

* Rants and Raves of the Week
* Name That Film Times Five (tentatively titled)

A few notes:

* The show can be found, of course, via iTunes - just do a search for "LAMBcast." Also, I always post a link to the show on the LAMBcast's Facebook page, and there's a player there if you'd like to listen online. The direct RSS feed is: http://lambcast.podomatic.com/rss2.xml

* Shows will eventually make their way to the LAMBcast Archives. If you'd ever like to catch up on back episodes, go there.

* If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood!
LAMBCAST #164: TOP 5 ACTIVE DIRECTORS

Originally, we'd planned to split our Franchise Look-back on the Disney Renaissance films (nine of them!) into two episodes. Unfortunately, scheduling issues forced us to combine them both into one monstrous episode (coming next week). As such, we had a free week and a spontaneous topic arise within the last couple days prior to the recording of this episode.

The chosen topic was a top five list: Active Directors. You'll have to listen to hear each participant's particular criteria for what that means, but you get the gist. On hand was Nick Powell (in his first hosting gig), Pat, Kristen, and Jay.

MOTM/LAMBcast #161: The Princess Bride

It was a battle for the ages, and it led to a film containing a fair few battles eing the winner. Yes, The Princess Bride took down Primer, this renewing the debate over what should and shouldn't be a Movie of the Month yet again. Should it shine a light on lesser-known/lesser-seen gems that slipped through the cracks or should it feature timeless classics? If you ask me, the answer leans towards the former but doesn't have to exclude the latter, especially when the winning Champion is so passionate about their choice. Such is the case this time around, as Nick of The Cinematic Katzenjammer cites the 1987 fantasy-comedy as his favorite film of all time. As such, he was well-prepared to praise the film (and defend it when necessary), proving that even a film as beloved as this one could produce an interesting (and low on fawning) discussion.

Before we get to the links, here's the IMDb summary for the film, for those that aren't familiar with it:

"A classic fairy tale, with swordplay, giants, an evil prince, a beautiful princess, and yes, some kissing (as read by a kindly grandfather)."

Now, let's see what your fellow LAMBs had to say about it. Thanks to the LAMBs that sent in their posts for this edition of the MOTM.

It's also time to vote on next month's movie. Once again, I put out the call for MOTM Champions. The gist is this: I ask for volunteers – people to select a film to be placed on the poll (up to 5 per month, as usual), then promote it on their site, Facebook, Twitter, whatever. Should their film win, they are guaranteed a spot on the LAMBcast episode where we will discuss said film. As a bonus (?), they will also get to host that segment of the show. This month, we have five potential Champions – the sites are listed along with the films in the poll below (and in the sidebar). You have one week to vote (and promote your movies!). I’ll be putting out the call for the next MOTM in a few weeks, so stay tuned.

[polldaddy poll=7018334]

As we do every month, the LAMBcast is tied in with the MOTM. This time around, as mentioned, Nick hosted the discussion on the MOTM, and was joined by Jay, Joel, Justin and Dylan.

Also on tap:
* Rants and Raves of the Week * Name That Film Times Five (tentatively titled)
A few notes:
* The show can be found, of course, via iTunes - just do a search for "LAMBcast." Also, I always post a link to the show on the LAMBcast's Facebook page, and there's a player there if you'd like to listen online. The direct RSS feed is: http://lambcast.podomatic.com/rss2.xml

I don't want to say that MOTM poll winner Justin (of Man, I Love Films) did anything improper to not only win the poll but destroy the competition (especially since he's a friend of mine and writes for my site), but let's just say that the reaction to his choice of film and the amount of reactions from LAMB members didn't exactly substantiate the pick. And yet, it's not as though we on the LAMBcast came up short of things to discuss about the 2003 thriller. It just...well, it made for another interesting MOTM, and that's about all I can say about that.

Before we get to the links, here's the IMDb summary for the film, for those that aren't familiar with it:

"Stranded at a desolate Nevada motel during a nasty rainstorm, ten strangers become acquainted with each other when they realize that they're being killed off one by one."

Now, let's see what your fellow LAMBs had to say about it. Thanks to all of the LAMBs that sent in their posts for this edition of the MOTM. Well, all ONE of them! (This is a first...)

Should their film win, they are guaranteed a spot on the LAMBcast episode where we will discuss said film. As a bonus (?), they will also get to host that segment of the show.

This month, we are doing something special. Jason Soto of Your Face! and Nick Powell of The Cinematic Katzenjammer have each submitted the films you see in this month's poll several times, and each have (obviously) never won with said films.
LAMBcast #156: LAMBs in Vegas!

To say that this is a special episode of the LAMBcast would be one of the larger understatements that I could make in this space. It's also one of the more unconventional shows we've had.

I really can't recall at the moment whose idea it was to have a LAMB meetup in Las Vegas, but I do know that once the idea was in my head (well over a year ago), I ran with it and ran hard. Very quickly, the notion to hold it during Oscars weekend came and thus, we had a date. For the past year, I've been screaming from the rooftops (aka Twitter, Facebook, this podcast, and the LAMB Forums, amongst other places) for any and all interested parties to join in on the festivities. Of which there weren't all that many, but I'll get to that in a second.

Interest was pretty high (if unsteady) early on, as I compiled a list of approximately 30 LAMBs who were keen on coming. For a variety of reasons, that number ended up dwindling - and we almost lost two more thanks to a last-minute storm - but we ended up with 14 people (LAMBs and significant others combined) for the trip, thanks in large part to the gang from French Toast Sunday, who numbered seven in all. Also along for the fun were LAMBcast regulars (and real-life podcast partners - and since January 1, website partners) Jason Soto (formerly of Invasion of the B Movies) and Nolahn (formerly of the Bargain Bin Review, now together with Jason and LAMBcast co-host Nick Jobe at Your Face), as well as my website partner and good friend Kai Parker.

The official events on the docket were scheduled on Saturday and Sunday. First, we gathered for a group dinner and get-to-know-you session at Margaritaville, the flagship restaurant of our de facto home base, the Flamingo, with the rest of the night filled with gabbing, gambling and guzzling.

On Sunday morning, we took to Nolahn's suite at the Jockey Club for "Podcast Row," which ended up being less row-ish and more group podcasting, as we all watched (and participated) in each other's shows. It was an event that, prior to attending, I think we were all worried about seeing it running too long and taking up too much of our day, but I had a blast. It was capped off by the LAMBcast that you see here - I never did nail down my plan for the show as well as I wanted to, but I'm happy with the end result: 12 people (!) discussing the LAMB, movies, our personal lives, Las Vegas, and more. It gets a bit crazy here and there, but it's short and sweet.

Finally, it was time for the Oscars, which we were attending at a viewing party being held by a swanky nightclub (in their pre-late night off hours, more or less) inside the Bellagio. Their drink prices were steep, but the atmosphere was great, making four hours staring at a screen an eventful evening.

I can't speak for everyone, but the general impression I got from the weekend is that we all wished it had lasted for a few days more - not for the gambling or boozing (honestly, I think we were all pretty tame considering the location), but just to hang out more and get to know each other a bit better. I know I'm ready to go back right now.

To that end, planning for the next meetup is already in the works over at the LAMB Forums. Come join in on the conversation (where should we go? New Orleans? Chicago? Duluth?) and, more importantly, come join us next time. It's gonna be a blast, wherever and whenever it is.

It's been a busy time around the LAMBcast parts as of late. Academy Award predictions, the recent Nightmare on Elm Street franchise look-back, the upcoming Las Vegas episode. As such, it was nice to kick and just talk about some recent viewings, theatrical or otherwise. On hand for the discussion was Joel, Kristen, Dan, Jay, and Dylan.

Also on tap:

* Rants and Raves of the Week (featuring an epic - in length - discussion of a certain romance in theaters now)
* Name That Film Times Five

A few notes:

* The show can be found, of course, via iTunes - just do a search for "LAMBcast." Also, I always post a link to the show on the LAMBcast's Facebook page, and there's a player there if you'd like to listen online. The direct RSS feed is: http://lambcast.podomatic.com/rss2.xml

* Shows will eventually make their way to the LAMBcast Archives. If you'd ever like to catch up on back episodes, go there.

* If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service. Opening song by Cake. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too - if you'd like yours read on a future show, leave it in the comments section at the LAMB. Please visit and like our Facebook page, and finally, we're on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it's a bad one.

MOTM/LAMBcast #153: Last Year at Marienbad

I could easily lead off with some joke about how abstract Last Year at Marienbad is or how much I want to play Nim or what those people standing there like mannequins might have been thinking the whole time this film was made, but frankly, I think we did enough of that on the podcast (see below). Suffice to say, Marienbad is a strange, interesting, boring, mysterious, exciting, beautiful, bizarre film...often times all in the same scene. One thing it's not is subtle, and the reactions it gets from people aren't likely to be subtle, either. It's a cipher, and whether it works for you or not seems to be more dependent on you, the audience member, than it does on the film itself.

Before we get to the links, here's the IMDb summary for the film, for those that aren't familiar with it:

"In a huge, old-fashioned luxury hotel, a stranger tries to persuade a married woman to run away with him, but it seems she hardly remembers the affair they may have had (or not?) last year at Marienbad."

Now, let's see what your fellow LAMBs had to say about it. Thanks to all of the LAMBs that sent in their posts for this edition of the MOTM.

That's basically the motto for the Ask the LAMB feature here, a segment that finds its host Jason Soto alternately begging for fun/interesting questions from LAMB members and (eventually) just trolling Yahoo Answers for the truly insane questions. It's been a personal favorite feature of mine on the site, as it can bring some seriously credible answers from a wide variety of film bloggers. It can also bring some seriously funny answers. Occasionally, it does both.

And so, Jason thought it might be fun to do an audio version. As such, you'll find that both the questions and the answers leaned more towards the silly, but it's fair to say that it definitely made for one of the funnier shows from start to finish that we've seen on the LAMBcast.
