To say that this is a special episode of the LAMBcast would be one of the larger understatements that I could make in this space. It's also one of the more unconventional shows we've had.
I really can't recall at the moment whose idea it was to have a LAMB meetup in Las Vegas, but I do know that once the idea was in my head (well over a year ago), I ran with it and ran hard. Very quickly, the notion to hold it during Oscars weekend came and thus, we had a date. For the past year, I've been screaming from the rooftops (aka Twitter, Facebook, this podcast, and the LAMB Forums, amongst other places) for any and all interested parties to join in on the festivities. Of which there weren't all that many, but I'll get to that in a second.
Interest was pretty high (if unsteady) early on, as I compiled a list of approximately 30 LAMBs who were keen on coming. For a variety of reasons, that number ended up dwindling - and we almost lost two more thanks to a last-minute storm - but we ended up with 14 people (LAMBs and significant others combined) for the trip, thanks in large part to the gang from French Toast Sunday, who numbered seven in all. Also along for the fun were LAMBcast regulars (and real-life podcast partners - and since January 1, website partners) Jason Soto (formerly of Invasion of the B Movies) and Nolahn (formerly of the Bargain Bin Review, now together with Jason and LAMBcast co-host Nick Jobe at Your Face), as well as my website partner and good friend Kai Parker.
The official events on the docket were scheduled on Saturday and Sunday. First, we gathered for a group dinner and get-to-know-you session at Margaritaville, the flagship restaurant of our de facto home base, the Flamingo, with the rest of the night filled with gabbing, gambling and guzzling.
On Sunday morning, we took to Nolahn's suite at the Jockey Club for "Podcast Row," which ended up being less row-ish and more group podcasting, as we all watched (and participated) in each other's shows. It was an event that, prior to attending, I think we were all worried about seeing it running too long and taking up too much of our day, but I had a blast. It was capped off by the LAMBcast that you see here - I never did nail down my plan for the show as well as I wanted to, but I'm happy with the end result: 12 people (!) discussing the LAMB, movies, our personal lives, Las Vegas, and more. It gets a bit crazy here and there, but it's short and sweet.
Finally, it was time for the Oscars, which we were attending at a viewing party being held by a swanky nightclub (in their pre-late night off hours, more or less) inside the Bellagio. Their drink prices were steep, but the atmosphere was great, making four hours staring at a screen an eventful evening.
I can't speak for everyone, but the general impression I got from the weekend is that we all wished it had lasted for a few days more - not for the gambling or boozing (honestly, I think we were all pretty tame considering the location), but just to hang out more and get to know each other a bit better. I know I'm ready to go back right now.
To that end, planning for the next meetup is already in the works over at the LAMB Forums. Come join in on the conversation (where should we go? New Orleans? Chicago? Duluth?) and, more importantly, come join us next time. It's gonna be a blast, wherever and whenever it is.

It's been a busy time around the LAMBcast parts as of late. Academy Award predictions, the recent Nightmare on Elm Street franchise look-back, the upcoming Las Vegas episode. Before we get to the links, here's the IMDb summary for the film, for those that aren't familiar with it:
"In a huge, old-fashioned luxury hotel, a stranger tries to persuade a married woman to run away with him, but it seems she hardly remembers the affair they may have had (or not?) last year at Marienbad."
Now, let's see what your fellow LAMBs had to say about it. Thanks to all of the LAMBs that sent in their posts for this edition of the MOTM.
As we do every month, the LAMBcast is tied in with the MOTM. This time around, as mentioned, Brian hosted a spirited MOTM segment, and was joined by Nick, Pat, Dan, and Dylan.

I believe the proper nomenclature is as follows:
*ahem*
If you got a problem, yo, we'll solve it.
That's basically the motto for the Ask the LAMB feature here, a segment that finds its host Jason Soto alternately begging for fun/interesting questions from LAMB members and (eventually) just trolling Yahoo Answers for the truly insane questions. It's been a personal favorite feature of mine on the site, as it can bring some seriously credible answers from a wide variety of film bloggers. It can also bring some seriously funny answers. Occasionally, it does both.
And so, Jason thought it might be fun to do an audio version. As such, you'll find that both the questions and the answers leaned more towards the silly, but it's fair to say that it definitely made for one of the funnier shows from start to finish that we've seen on the LAMBcast. Joining him was Nolahn, Nick, Lackey, and Dylan.

Feed note: With close to 1500 members, our shepherd Joel has decided that the LAMB is more than large enough to accommodate a second podcast. So joining the LAMBcast will be The Film Pasture, a new show dedicated to exploring the world of film and film blogging through the eyes of you, the writers. Each week, we will explore one or more topics through a series of interviews and discussions with members of the LAMB.
The podcast can be found at The Film Pasture podomatic feed. We will also be including The Film Pasture on the LAMBcast feed for the first few episodes.
This special episode focuses on the just-finished 2003 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT. With over 40,000 attendees, you know there was bound to be at least a few LAMBs there. We talk to Shala Thomas from Life Between Films about her Sundance experiences: how she approaches the fest, where to go and (of course) what her favorite films were.
I hope to do more mini-episodes like this so if you have a film festival or another timely film event you'd like to talk about, let me know at thefilmpasture@verizon.net. And keep an eye on The Film Pasture twitter feed because if big film news breaks, I may just ask a couple of LAMBs to come on-line and discuss it.
We return to our regularly scheduled episodes this Wednesday.
Another year, another 2,000 sequels, reboots and remakes await moviegoers worldwide. From Man of Steel to the delayed Great Gatsby to the delayed G.I. Joe sequel and everything in between.
Nick hosts this ep, and was joined by Joel, Jess, Kristen and first-timer Shane as they rattled off their respective most anticipated films for the coming year. Think you can guess which films each participant is most psyched for?

Strap yourselves in.
Lindsay, Jessica, Nick, Justin, and Dylan gathered round the campfire to rattle off their Top 5 films of 2012, and it's an epic. As if that weren't enough, we even threw in some special awards for key films/scenes/actors/etc. It's a fun show that covers a surprisingly wide array of films...made even wider with Nick's compulsion to name every honorable mention in his list of 400 films seen this year. Ok, maybe not.
Also, Joel asked me to include everyone's linked lists of Top 10s that were posted over at the LAMB Forums, so here goes:
* Two Tickets For - Sara and Andrew
* Go See Talk - Marc, Andrew, Jessica, Grady
* Xmarksthespot - Karl and Vicki
Also on tap:
* Rants and Raves of the Week
* Name That Film Times Five

So joining the LAMBcast will be The Film Pasture, a new show dedicated to exploring the world of film and film blogging through the eyes of you, the writers. Each week, we will explore one or more topics through a series of interviews and discussions with members of the LAMB.
In this first episode, we learn a bit about the history of the site from its founder before talking with current shepherd Joel Burman about the LAMB's future. The podcast can be found at The Film Pasture podomatic feed. We will also be including The Film Pasture on the LAMBcast feed for the first few episodes.
Moving forward, I encourage any and all LAMB members who would like to come on the show to drop me an email at thefilmpasture@verizon.net or comment below. If you have an idea for a topic or feedback, I want to hear that too. In addition, I've set up a Twitter account at @filmpasture that you can follow to learn when new shows are posted or to find out about opportunities to come on the show.
You can expect new shows to be posted every other Wednesday. I'm looking forward to all of our future discussions!

"Two pretty high school girls (one a cheerleader!) don't like their stepmother or her new boyfriend ("Daddy would have gotten us Uzis!"). One morning, they wake up to find that everybody in Los Angeles has been turned to dust by a Comet except them, a guy who looks like Erik Estrada, some zombies and the occupants of a secret underground government installation. "
Multiple Oscar winner. Box office champion. Bosum Buddy. And now...LAMBcast Career Draft subject. You're welcome, Tom Hanks!
One thing I can say for sure is that, despite starring in fewer films overall (and I'm probably stating the obvious here), Hanks' career - or at least 30 films' worth of it - is vastly better than that of our last draft subject, Bruce Willis. In that draft, I think the participants were cursing the available choices come the fourth round or so, but I think it's fair to say that most of us wouldn't mind (all that much) watching any given film from even the sixth round of Hanks' career.
Nolahn took the hosting reins for this episode, and was joined by Nick, Todd, Jay and Dylan.
Just for posterity, here were the films cut from each team - listen to the episode to hear the reasoning behind the cuts:
Nick: The DaVince Code
Jay: Charlie Wilson's War
Todd: The Ladykillers
Nolahn: The Terminal
Dylan: You've Got Mail

"This....is...LAMBpardy!"
Now entering the studio are today's contestants...
First up is the five-time champion, from Man, I Love Films...Dylan Fields. Dylan like long walks in a mall and dining at Red Lobster. He one day dreams of flying into a tree. Our first challenger is Jason (Jay in LAMBcast world) Cluitt of Life Vs. Film. Jay takes pictures of squirrels in his spare time and once ate an entire watermelon in two bites. Finally, we have the man known to his friends as Sir Donkey Sex, Mr. Nick Powell of The Cinematic Katzenjammer. Nick has a poster of Dylan on his wall that he throws darts at while watching the films of Nic Cage.
Finally, we have our host, Kai Parker, also of Man, I Love Films. Kai is getting so good at hosting this that his hair is curling up a bit and his mustache is coming in grey. He also has nightmares where a man dressed like Sean Connery shakes him and screams "Therapists!!" at him.
Anyway, enough silliness. Will Nick or Jay kick Dylan out of the champ's chair? You gotta listen and find out!
LAMBpardy episopdes are a semi-regular feature of the LAMBcast, so if you'd like to be a player in the future, keep an eye out over at the Forums, as demand is high and there's a max of three contestants per show (and one of them is the returning champ).

As I mention during the show, the next time we do a franchise look-back, we're scaling back. From our humble beginnings with Alien and Jurassic Park, we've grown to cover six films with the last look-back in Rocky, and now a whopping seven films (which could have potentially been nine had I not capped us at New Nightmare) with an in-depth look at the Elm Street series. In other words, don't count on seeing Friday the 13th or the James Bond series being looked at anytime soon.
This time around, Nick, Dylan, Pat, Jason and first-time LAMBcaster Marc gathered to dissect Freddy Krueger in all his forms - his high points, low points, best and worst kills, place in horror history and, of course, just how terrible Freddy's Dead is.
Note: please accept my apologies for my loud and nasty coughing that pops up a few times during the show. I muted myself so the show participants couldn't hear it, but my mic still picked it up and I couldn't edit it out.

Before we get to the links, here's the IMDb summary for the film, for those that aren't familiar with it:
"The world's youngest citizen has just died at 18, and humankind is facing the likelihood of its own extinction. Set in and around a dystopian London fractious with violence and warring nationalistic sects, Children of Men follows the unexpected discovery of a lone pregnant woman and the desperate journey to deliver her to safety and restore faith for a future beyond those presently on Earth. "
Now, let's see what your fellow LAMBs had to say about it. Thanks to all of the LAMBs that sent in their posts for this edition of the MOTM.
It's also time to vote on next month's movie. Once again, I put out the call for MOTM Champions. The gist is this: I ask for volunteers - people to select a film to be placed on the poll (up to 10 per month, as usual), then promote it on their site, Facebook, Twitter, whatever. Should their film win, they are guaranteed a spot on the LAMBcast episode where we will discuss said film. As a bonus (?), they will also get to host that segment of the show.
This month, we have five potential Champions - the sites are listed along with the films in the poll in the sidebar. You have one week to vote (and promote your movies!). I'll be putting out the call for the next MOTM in a few weeks, so stay tuned.
As we do every month, the LAMBcast is tied in with the MOTM. This time around, as mentioned, Ryan hosted the MOTM segment, and was joined by Dan, Lindsay, and Justin.

Well, this took forever, for no good reason. Thankfully, this being a top 5 episode, it's timeless (or something).
Anyway, Nick, Kristen, Todd and Dylan got together for the latest edition of this LAMBcast favorite, in which we each came to the table with our own unique top 5 list. This time, it varied from family horror-dramas to interestingly quirky Christmas movies.

Listening to podcasts on your mobile devices is extremely convenient -- and it's what makes the podcasting medium so powerful.
